City guide
Marrakech 2030
Morocco's tourism capital, vibrant medina, charming riads and gateway to the desert.
Marrakech is probably the most iconic Moroccan city for international travellers. Its UNESCO-listed medina, souks, riads and the unmissable Jemaa el-Fna square form a unique sensory experience.
Around 2030, Marrakech will be in very high demand. Booking accommodation and excursions early is essential — the best riads can be full months in advance.
Why visit Marrakech
Marrakech offers a concentrated taste of Morocco: imperial heritage (Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs), spirituality (Koutoubia), gardens (Majorelle, Menara), refined cuisine, top-tier craftsmanship and easy access to the Atlas, Agafay desert and Essaouira.
Best neighbourhoods to stay
Medina: traditional riads, full immersion. Prefer one with a transfer service.
Guéliz / Hivernage: modern city, international hotels, calmer and easier to get around.
Palmeraie: resorts with pool and space, 15-20 min from the centre — ideal for relaxation.
How to arrive
Marrakech-Ménara Airport (RAK) is 6 km from the centre. Many direct European flights. From Casablanca, Al Boraq does not yet reach Marrakech at high speed: count about 3 h on the classic train.
Getting around
The medina is best on foot. Beige 'petits taxis' serve the whole city — insist on the meter. Avoid private cars in the medina.
What to see
Jemaa el-Fna at sunset, souks, Ben Youssef Madrasa, Bahia Palace, Majorelle Garden / YSL Museum, Koutoubia Mosque (exterior), Mellah.
Excursions: Atlas (Ourika, Imlil), Agafay desert, Essaouira (full day), Ouzoud falls.
Food and restaurants
From street food (skewers, harira) to refined tables in the medina and Guéliz, Marrakech impresses. Book gastronomic restaurants in advance, especially in high season.
Practical tips
Protect yourself from the sun, stay hydrated. Bargain with a smile in the souks. Fake-guide scams exist — politely refuse. The guide will be updated as 2030 approaches; always check official information.
