Transport in Morocco 2030
Airports, trains, taxis, cars: everything to move easily between host cities.
Morocco has solid transport infrastructure, constantly modernising. For international travellers, the combination plane + Al Boraq train + taxi covers most of the country without needing a rental car. Here's how to organise it.
Main airports
Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN) — the biggest hub, linked across Europe and beyond.
Marrakech Ménara (RAK) — many low-cost flights from Europe.
Rabat-Salé (RBA) — limited European flights, quieter.
Tangier Ibn Battouta (TNG) — connects Tangier to several European capitals.
Agadir (AGA), Fès (FEZ), Nador, Ouarzazate — other useful airports.
Trains and Al Boraq
ONCF runs a reliable, comfortable rail network. The Al Boraq high-speed line links Tangier to Casablanca via Kénitra and Rabat at high speed.
Indicative times: Tangier ↔ Rabat 1 h 20, Tangier ↔ Casablanca 2 h 10, Rabat ↔ Casablanca 40-60 min. Online booking on the ONCF site is recommended, especially in high season.
Travelling between major cities
Casablanca ↔ Rabat: train (ideal, very frequent).
Casablanca ↔ Tangier: Al Boraq (2 h 10).
Casablanca ↔ Marrakech: classic train (approx. 3 h), CTM or Supratours bus, or domestic flight.
Marrakech ↔ Tangier: domestic flight or train with connection.
Taxis: small and grand
Petits taxis (urban, colour by city): max 3 passengers, on meter. Insist that it is on.
Grands taxis (intercity, beige/white): shared by 6, or chartered. Negotiate the price first.
Ride-hailing apps available in major cities, recommended at night.
Car rental
Useful for remote regions (Atlas, desert, coast). International licence recommended. Beware of intense urban driving, radars and paid parking. Avoid driving in medinas.
Long-distance buses
CTM and Supratours are the two reliable companies. Comfortable, air-conditioned, tickets online. Good alternative to the train on certain routes.
Practical tips for 2030
Anticipate all inter-city transport. Buy train tickets as soon as sales open. Keep several options (train, domestic flight, bus) in case of saturation.
Safety and luggage
Keep valuables on you in trains. Label your luggage. Prefer official taxis at night. Photograph the vehicle's plate for long trips.
