Tangier 2030

The gateway between Europe and Morocco: lively port, medina, corniche and international atmosphere.

Tangier has long been a cosmopolitan city at the crossroads of Mediterranean and African cultures. Today it's a metropolis in full transformation: new port area, restored old medina, modern infrastructure and fast links to the rest of the country.

For European travellers, Tangier can be a natural entry point thanks to ferries from Tarifa and Algeciras, or direct flights to Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG).

Why visit Tangier

Tangier combines Atlantic and Mediterranean coast, cosmopolitan heritage (legendary cafés frequented by Bowles, Burroughs, Matisse), picturesque medina and fast access to Chefchaouen, Asilah or even Spain for a day trip.

Best neighbourhoods to stay

Medina / Kasbah: charm, view of the strait, riads.

City centre (Boulevard Pasteur): modern hotels, cafés, restaurants.

Marshan: quiet residential, nice views.

Malabata: seaside resort hotels.

How to arrive

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG) with many European flights. Fast ferries from Tarifa (to Tangier Ville, 1 h) or Algeciras (to Tanger Med). Al Boraq train links Tangier to Rabat and Casablanca at high speed.

Getting around

Blue petits taxis cover the city (always on meter). Medina and kasbah are best on foot. For the corniche or Cap Spartel, take a taxi or organised excursion.

Tangier is famous for fish and seafood. Must-go addresses around the port and in the medina. Don't miss historic cafés (Hafa, Gran Café de Paris) for a mint tea break.
